[Crossing the Buffalo National River at Dixon Ford Access]

... Me

Being a native of Arkansas, I'm certainly proud of our state! "The Natural State" is certainly an appropriate title and I do my best to get out and enjoy all of the wonders it has to offer on a regular basis. I began my "serious" photography journey in November of 2010.  I sat down at the computer with the intention of finding some courses to take, but I was amazed at the amount of free information I found readily available! By February of 2011 I was ready for my first big adventure so I headed to Boxley Valley along the Buffalo National River. (A place I have been to many times since). It was an amazing start to the world of photography! I now spend a lot of my free time hiking and photographing nature and wildlife all around the state and beyond. While I'm still learning a lot about photography and my own creative abilities, I decided it was time to share my experiences and favorite images with family and friends and anyone else who takes the time to stop by.

... My Workflow

I capture RAW data 100% of the time and process the images in Lightroom Classic and Photoshop CC.
I also use Nikon's NX Studio to quickly analyze image sharpness and to assist with other RAW image tasks.

... My Websites

You can find my images at these locations on the internet:
Facebook: Doug Hundley > Photos > Albums > Timeline Photos
Wordpress (blog): douglasfhundley.wordpress.com
Zenfolio (galleries): douglasfhundley.zenfolio.com

I post to Facebook timeline more frequently because it's easier for family and friends to access.

I post to my Wordpress blog occasionally, mainly when I feel I have something of substance to share with others, such as favorite locations, experiences, and even a little photography knowledge.

I post to my Zenfolio galleries in spells, usually when I have enough of my best images to start a gallery.  For the most part, my galleries are by year and location rather than by subject.  I feel that creates better variety in each gallery and makes for more interesting viewing. I also have a gallery of available prints on this site.

Feel free to browse thru any or all of the sites, hopefully you will find some inspiration to get out and do some photography yourself.  If you have any photography related questions, don't hesitate to contact me.  I'll do my best to respond in a timely manner.

... My Prints

In April of 2021, I was accepted into the Buffalo River Art Gallery in Gilbert, Arkansas. Gilbert is considered a "resort" town of the Buffalo National River, it's a popular stopping point for the many floaters of the river each year. Working with the gallery gives me a chance to continue to improve all aspects of my photography, especially printing. Each month I print and assemble gallery wrapped canvas prints for the gallery to sell. It's been a great experience and I look forward to continuing to work with them in the future!

... My Blog

Why do I write a blog?

I follow several photographers who write great blogs so I'm definitely not trying to compete with them, or any other blogger out there for that matter.  My primary reason for writing (or at least attempting to) is to simply share what I've learned about photography and hopefully say it in a way some will find helpful.  At times I have read articles about the same subject written by different photographers and occasionally one will explain it in a way that makes it much easier for me to understand.  Or one will provide analogies and examples that I better relate to.  My goal is to do the same with my own unique writing style based on my own unique experiences.

And taking the time to put things into words helps me learn and improve.  Writing articles that others may read forces me to really think things through which helps me truly understand what I am writing about.  Plus, at times my research uncovers new information I had previously missed out on.  It's always great to learn little tips that lead to improvement in some way!

I certainly don't consider myself a writer, I was a math major in high school and college with no intention of ever doing any writing.  I ended up being a software developer for 35+ years.  I did a lot of writing (code), but I got to make up my own words and there was never a concern about grammer. :)  But I'm trying to learn and improve my writing too!  So bear with me and focus on the content.  If you do find something confusing or incorrect, feel free to point it out.  I'll thank you for it!

Who is my target audience?

Since I still consider myself a beginner photographer in a lot of areas, I'm writing more to other beginners.  I remember well my early struggles in photography and will gladly share anything I can to help others get thru similar struggles.  Experienced photographers may find some value here and there also.  Or they may add to the conversation with comments and help us all learn more.  And most importantly, they can correct me if I say something misleading or totally incorrect.  I certainly don't want to spread misinformation, the internet has enough of that already. :)

I hope to see you out on the trail sometime!
And of course, with a camera and a tripod!
Doug
